Intelesens seeks partners
Intelesens seeks market partners for remote health monitor.
Intelesens today announced that it is seeking UK and European channel partners to help deploy its Vitalsens devices and Canberra software package into healthcare applications. Earlier this year the company achieved CE approval for its devices and also for its patient data receiving, storage and retrieval software. The full package is now available as a plug-and-play remote monitoring solution.
The Vitalsens device consists of two components. A disposable, low cost adhesive electrode patch which sticks to the patient's skin in the chest area; a small (50mm) battery-powered device which clips on to the patch and which monitors the heart pattern and can either transmit an ecg sample if an irregularity is detected or record and transmit a sample of ecg periodically. The body-worn device transmits either by BlueTooth or wi-fi. A third optional device, about the size of a small mobile phone, can receive signals from the body-worn device and send them via the mobile phone network to software residing on a remote server. This device if used stays in the patient's pocket, handbag or during the night at their bedside. The patch and the clip-on device can be worn in the shower. Other available versions of the device measure and transmit temperature and motion information along with ecg data. Future versions will capture and transmit respiration rate and blood oxygen levels. Clinicians access the collected data via a simple but secure web interface.
The benefit of this remote monitoring technology is that patients at risk or those who need the symptoms of chronic disease monitored regularly can have their condition checked without the need to attend their health centre or out-patient clinic. Early detection of cardiac symptoms provides the opportunity for early clinical intervention and improving clinical outcomes. Intelesens is currently trialling the next generation of devices which will also measure respiration rate, temperature, heart rate and can even tell whether the wearer is standing, lying on their left or right side and can detect if a patient has fallen over.
